January 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the National Sports Center for the Disabled. What started as a one-time ski lesson for children from Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO has grown into one of the largest therapeutic recreational agencies in the world. Whether learning how to ski, climb a mountain, ride a bike or any other athletic skill, the NSCD helps athletes of any age and any disability realize they are capable of amazing things.
For more information on the NSCD, please visit www.nscd.org.
Each year the NSCD commissions a disabled artist to capture the excitement of the Wells Fargo Ski Cup and the spirit of the NSCD. This year Nancy Rourke’s Ski Up High will be featured and available for bid at the Wells Fargo Ski Cup Silent Auction. As a deaf artist Nancy Rourke used painting and drawing during childhood as a way of expressing herself. Now she is an impressionist painter living and working in Northern Colorado and teaches art classes during the summer at Access Gallery.
